About
I’m Maejoy, a Clinical Psychologist and EMDR Therapist at Kapwa Psychology. I work with adults and young people (16+) who are after change not only in how they think, but in how they experience the world from within. This includes people navigating trauma, depression, anxiety, eating concerns, life transitions, and perinatal mental health.
My practice is trauma informed and relational, which means that I’m less focused on managing your symptoms and more focused on exploring what they’ve been protecting. We work together in a space that is non-judgmental and welcoming, moving between insight and felt experience.
therapeutic Style
My therapeutic style leans toward approaches that honour the whole person – contemplative, somatic, and mindfulness-based ways of understanding ourselves. I work in a way that feels intentional, unhurried, and genuinely welcoming. My aim is to support you to reconnect with the steadiness and wisdom that already exists within you, even when it feels out of reach.
I work particularly well with people who have often felt unseen, or who have spent a long time not quite finding the words or the room to feel fully heard. If this sounds like you, you're welcome here.

Modality & Approach
My approach draws primarily on Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy – a well-researched trauma therapy that works directly with the body’s innate capacity for healing. While best known for trauma, EMDR is also helpful for depression, anxiety, and the legacy of difficult life experiences. It is particularly useful for people who feel held back by longstanding beliefs, relationships, or memories.
I tailor therapy to a client’s goals and preferences, integrating other evidence-based approaches (including Schema Therapy, ACT, and Narrative Therapy) alongside somatic awareness, mindfulness, and culturally responsive frameworks. I work from the belief that identity, community, and worldview are not separate from mental health, but woven through it.
Extended EMDR sessions are available for people undertaking trauma reprocessing work. Longer sessions allow the reprocessing to move more fully toward resolution with reduced disruption compared to shorter sessions.
Personal Insight
What book have you read more than once?
Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer. This is a beautiful, poetic book about reciprocity, attention, and what it means to feel at home in the world.
What is your favourite type of music?
Jazz and any music that feels like a cosy cup of tea. Laufey, Ella Fitzgerald, and BonIver accompany me most mornings. Also, any music that gets sung out loud!
