Dr Mandy Peyton- Harbour Therapy Clinic
DPsych, BA (Hons) MAPS
Counselling Psychologist, Certified Emotion Focused Couples Counsellor, EMDR practitioner
Dr Mandy Peyton is in private practice at Harbour Therapy Clinic, Coffs Harbour. Mandy has over 15 years’ experience working with individuals & couples navigating the spectrum of challenges that beset us as human beings in an increasingly complex world. Mandy’s therapeutic orientation comes from an abiding faith in, and observation of, the wisdom & capacity we inherently have to orient towards fulfilment of basic needs such as the needs for safety, acceptance, boundaries, authenticity and connection. So often however, the strategies we developed at a young age are no longer serving us as adults causing distress and disconnect.
Mandy’s style is warm, engaging and highly professional as she seeks to help you navigate your way through the issues you wish to better understand. She creates a compassionate, understanding and supportive setting to help to put you at ease as you embark upon counselling to address the concerns that have brought you into therapy. Her primary therapeutic orientation comes from Emotion Focused Therapy, Attachment Theory, Internal Family Systems and Mindfulness approaches.
Within the safety of a healthy, respectful relational context, clients can explore & develop their relationship to themselves and to others, while addressing their primary concerns. They develop skills such as healthy self-assertion & boundary setting, authenticity, self-acceptance, giving and receiving of love & care, and letting go of what is impeding a happier life.
Mandy works with a range of presenting conditions including anxiety & mood disorders, grief & loss, life transitions, relationship issues and family of origin & attachment problems. She is also a trained trauma therapist – both isolated traumatic events and developmental trauma.
COUPLES THERAPY
Mandy is a skilled and experienced couples’ therapist and one of only a handful of Certified EFT Couples Therapists in Australia. She helps couples unpack their negative cycle of conflict & distress, understand the part each partner plays in driving the repetition of the cycle, delve into their underlying unmet needs & fears, and helps them reconstruct a new way of interacting bringing the warmth & connection back to life. Mandy has experience working across a spectrum of issues including repairing from affairs & loss of trust, repetitive cycles of anger & shut down, mismatched libidos & sexual problems and the chronic failure to attend to the relationship leading to disconnect.
Mandy is a registered Psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), and is a member of the Australian Psychology Society (APS) as well as a member of its Counselling College. She is a registered service provider under Medicare.
