In the wake of the findings of the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse there is an ever increasing awareness and emphasis on issues of child safety in our homes, institutions and community. It is increasingly likely that practitioners in a range of support and helping professions will come into contact with men women and adolescents who have either disclosed or been convicted for sexual offences or are facing allegations of sexual violence. Risk Assessment and family intervention is increasingly required in correctional, mental health, counselling and community based service settings. In particular it is necessary to balance the complex and challenging task of recognising the contextual and potential risk factors to ensure the future safety of children.
This workshop aims to provide participants with an overview of contemporary models for understanding aberrant sexual behaviour and sexual violence and to equip participants with a framework to assist in making decisions about the potential risks of allowing contact with children. It will also highlight the complex issues associated the rise in reporting of sibling sexual abuse in the family context and how to work with the child and adolescent offenders.

3. Use research information to defend your case decisions
4. Make sound recommendations for the level and type of contact, if any, with the offender (or alleged offender) has with children.
