Rebecca May
Accredited Dietician and Nutritionist (Medicare accredited)
Rebecca May is in private practice at Harbour Therapy Clinic, Coffs Harbour . As an Accredited Practicing Dietitian (APD), Rebecca combines her clinical nutrition expertise with real-life experience to provide a high quality, evidence based, client-centred approach. She provides nutrition counselling using a ‘Non-diet approach’ which falls within the Health At Every Size (HAES®) paradigm. Using this approach to nutrition, Rebecca provides a compassionate, weight-neutral strategy to making a positive health change. In doing so, Rebecca empowers her clients to move towards a flexible and pleasurable eating style that focusses on nourishment and wellbeing, rather than on external regulators such as diets and weight control.
Upon graduating from the University of Wollongong in 2011, Rebecca worked as a Clinical Dietitian across a number of clinical settings (inpatient, outpatient, community) delivering medical nutrition therapy (MNT) across a variety of clinical areas. Rebecca is highly motivated to provide a nutrition service that provides a non-judgemental space for exploring nutrition concerns.
Since becoming a mother to two busy boys, Rebecca understands the competing demands of family life and this shows in her empathetic approach to feeding all members of the family. She is enjoys helping people improve their relationship with food and bodies and is particularly passionate about educating and guiding parents as to how to nurture the ‘intuitive eater’ within every child. Rebecca uses the Ellyn Satter division of responsibility (sDOR) model to navigate childhood feeding (fussy eating). This is a systematic and stress-free approach to feeding that honours the roles of both the parent and the child, reduces mealtime battles and overall makes feeding children a more pleasurable experience.
Rebecca is trained and able to provide medical nutrition therapy and nutrition counselling to individuals, including those with disease states or co-mobidities, and does so through a size inclusive lens. This includes but is not limited to:
