Overview: We’d like to invite you to participate in our monthly practice series developed by the Harbour Therapy Clinic (HTC) . Each month we are running an event, where leaders in their field of therapy, present a chosen modality. We hope to broaden the scope of the understanding for available treatment modalities and provide an educational environment for students and practitioners alike to explore. In each session we will provide a theoretical overview, a demonstration of practice, followed by an experiential practice with you which which allows you to experience  a window into the therapist's experience of direct clinical practice with clients.

Session 2: For the second session in the series, being held on Saturday August 3rd, Clinical Psychologist Dr Basia (pronounced 'Baasha', or like 'Russia') Radlinksa introduces you to the practice of Schema Therapy. Dr Radlinska is a Clinical Psychologist practicing at Headspace Coffs Harbour, and a Lecturer in Psychology at Southern Cross University. Her main areas of clinical interest are Trauma and Complex Trauma (including sexual assault, family and domestic violence), Borderline Personality Disorder, Eating Disorders and Bipolar Disorder".

Schema therapy is an integrative therapy, initially developed by Jeffrey Young, that significantly expands on traditional cognitive-behavioural treatments and concepts. The therapy blends elements from cognitive-behavioural, attachment, Gestalt, object relations, constructivist, and psychoanalytic schools into a rich, unifying conceptual treatment model. The model underscores the role of Early Maladaptive Schemas - self-defeating emotional and cognitive patterns that begin early in our development and repeat throughout life - in the development and maintenance of psychological difficulties. Schema therapy provides a system of psychotherapy that is especially well suited to helping individuals with entrenched, chronic psychological disorders who have heretofore been considered difficult to treat. However, many clients benefit from this innovative and client-centred approach to clinical care.
This session will once again provide participants with the opportunity to practice sitting in the therapists chair, and continue their practice of micro counselling skills and this time adding the lens of Schema Therapy and introduce some of its tools to your practice.

Some comments  from our first session:
"The Harbour Therapy Clinic's first practice series was an overwhelming success. With participants from all walks of life, brought together to understand more about good therapeutic practice. Rowena, Angie, Basia and Emma were very insightful and generous with their knowledge fostering an environment of safety and curiosity. Meeting with other individuals who like me, wanted to help others, was beautiful and it was very interesting to listen to everyone's anecdotes as we all had such different stories. The practical component was by far my favourite. As a psychology student, it is rare you get to practice clinical skills, and to do so in such a supportive environment with the keen oversight of qualified professionals was amazing."
"I felt the demonstration was really valuable in understanding the modality. Loved it. The presenters were amazing. Very grateful for the opportunity to experience the session."
"I enjoyed watching a session happen. It provided a unique opportunity to learn about therapy in an experimental context. I also appreciated the personalised feedback from an experienced practitioner (Emma) following my practice as a therapist."
" I found the session very nurturing and informative, and my thoughts and feedback were both heard and relevant."
