About
Nina’s background is predominantly in dance. She is a graduate of The Australian Ballet School and worked professionally for 13 years with the Sydney Dance Company. She has a BA (Film and Television) from The Australian Film, TV and Radio School specialising in Directing. She was Rehearsal Director for Bangarra Dance Theatre (2000/2001) before taking the position of Lecturer Dance, VCA Dance, The University of Melbourne (2002 - 2020). During her tenure she pursued extensive professional development engaging in teacher training in Iyengar Yoga and attaining certification in Conditioning with Imagery Training, Gyrokinesis and Gyrotonic ® methodologies as well as participating in Kinesiology, Feldenkrais (Awareness through Movement) and Tai Chi/QI Gong classes/workshops. Nina was instrumental in Yoga being included in the VCA BFA Dance curricula as means of assisting dance students’ to improve their movement facility, embodiment and optimal performance in a range of activities including dance technique, warm-up, safe dance practice and body/mind centring. In teaching yoga she sought to expand/develop a participants’ practice through offering a fresh and unique perspective formed by her professional development spanning many years. Class focus is on release/mobility methods, body/mind centring, dynamic alignment for the individual body, and technique of asana in preparation for Vinyasa flow sequences.
