At our fourth session in the series Harbour Therapy Clinic Director Angie Laussel invites you to explore the rich and diverse world of Family Therapy.  Angie is a Child & Family Therapist and Mental Health Accredited Social Worker in private practice.  She has worked extensively with families in a range of settings, including out of home care, adoption and permanent care, and adolescent mental health. Angie has also worked with families following significant trauma, including violent death and natural disaster, such as the Black Saturday bushfires in Victoria. Her private practice sees families present with complex developmental trauma histories, and the impact of family separation.
Family Therapy is an evolving paradigm that incorporates a wide range of ideas, perspectives and approaches for working with families and broader systems in addressing issues.  There are a range of theoretical approaches that use the umbrella of Family Therapy, including structural, strategic, systemic, narrative and solution focused. Their commonality is a shift from the intrapsychic to include the relational, with an exploration of patterns between people and the influence of the contextual environment on behaviour and development of “problems”.
This session will explore the basic assumptions of Family Therapy, and four key conceptual building blocks for working with families. Participants will have the opportunity to practice their micro counselling skills in a family setting, as well as learn some new micro skills specific to this field of therapy.
Feedback from previous sessions:
"It was incredibly well balanced between the practical and theoretical. The facilitators were very experienced and helpful."
"Having an expert in the room with us when we practiced the skills was really helpful in getting specific feedback."
"The presenters experience and gentle nature made the content very accessible. The constructive guidance during the practice was very useful."
